More Customers To Benefit From Award-Winning Back-Up Service With Launch Of Back-Up Plus

(PRWEB) November 10, 2011

Aviva’s award-winning Back-Up rehabilitation service has been enhanced to cover a more extensive range of common musculoskeletal issues. The highly rated service has already been proven to significantly improve the speed of recovery and return to work rate for customers with back and neck conditions.

Developed initially to help support private medical insurance customers with back and neck conditions, the extended Back-Up Plus service is now available to customers on corporate PMI schemes who have musculoskeletal issues relating to other areas of the body, including knees, feet, elbows, limbs, shoulders, joints and muscles.

Employees who suspect a musculoskeletal issue will be referred to the Back-Up Plus service, where a dedicated medically qualified case manager will conduct an in-depth assessment before offering practical, clinical advice and support. In the last year, 97% of Back-Up customers spoke to a qualified physiotherapist within two hours, avoiding a wait to see a GP.

The service has already shown it can significantly reduce the number of physiotherapy sessions required for full recovery from a musculoskeletal condition, with far fewer customers needing to be referred to a specialist. Those customers requiring physiotherapy had an average of five sessions through the Back-Up scheme, compared to a previous average number of nine sessions.

Back-Up has been developed with the UK’s leading professional rehabilitation provider HCML. It is one of a range of expert-led and highly personalised health management initiatives from Aviva that have significantly improved recovery amongst individual and group private medical insurance customers.

For customers using Back-Up Plus through a corporate scheme, their personal case manager can also work with their line manager to advise how best to help a safe and effective return to work.

Andrew McMillan, rehabilitation and claims development manager, Aviva, said: “Over 20,000 customers have already benefited from our prompt and personalised Back-Up service and we’re delighted to be able to extend cover to corporate customers presenting musculoskeletal symptoms in other areas of the body.

“Our recent Health of the Workplace survey shows that musculoskeletal conditions are one of the top causes of sickness absence in the UK and employers are looking for greater support and understanding of how to help employees with such conditions. The extension of our Back-Up service will offer more customers a personally tailored treatment plan that will hasten their recovery and return to work, helping reduce sickness absence costs for employers.”

Autism Co-Existing With Mental Health Issues: Schziotypal & Borderline Personality Disorders

March 4, 2011 - 9:57 am 3 Comments

Hi All This is my thirteenth video about Autism and my tenth about Autism and Co-Exisiting Conditions. This video deals with the issues of Autism and Mental Health. I give personal insight of being in a Mental Health Service where I was undiagnosed then misdiagnosed and the at that point in time having two mental health personality disorders that had been due to bullying in the workplace. I also hope that specialists and the DSM-V take into account that Autism isn’t one thing. I hope this helps others.

Why should people with pre-existing health conditions be denied insurance?

February 14, 2011 - 2:33 pm 16 Comments

basically

uhh people who have a condition could go bankrupt if without insurance and they can’t get on it without obama’s help

so why are americans letting people go bankrupt and die to diseases and they want this to go away?

Because someone has to pay the medical bills, and that someone is the other insurance holders who are healthy. Pre-existing drives up the costs of insurance for the entire pool.
Usually pre-existing conditions are just not covered, but all other medical issues will be covered for
so many years.
Of course, when you get your insurance from work, there is no such thing as pre-existing.
All employees are insured at the same price.
Any shortages with the premiums will just be charged to the company.

Could my mom get chemo or radiation therapy for small cell lung cancer with other Health conditions?

January 26, 2011 - 6:40 am 1 Comment

My mom has small cell lung cancer recently diagnosed this past monday. She has osteporisis, heart stint, biopolar dissorder, arthritis, thryroid disease and a respitory disease.I am concerned that the oncologist will even beable to offer chemo or radiation on top of all her conditions she has.I need opinions from people that are familier with this..I need support through this hard time..Thank you..

I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I am going through much of the same. My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 2 1/2 months ago. By the time of the diagnosis, she had already lost quite abit of weight. She’s also 83 yrs old, and has had 2 heart surgeries. The Dr’s told us right away that chemo was not an option. They believed she was too frail to survive the treatments.

She was given a diagnosis of 2-3 months. Right now she is in a hospice house, and doing o.k. Good days & bad days.

This is a very tough thing to go through. For both your mom and you. The Dr’s will look at her overall health, her age, and stage of the cancer, and decide what (if any) treatments are needed.

My mom is 83, and has lived a full life. She says she’s ready to go. In her case chemo might have prolonged her life by afew months, but is it worth it? These are questions only your mother can answer.

Take care

What are the most common mental health conditions in children and teenagers?

depression. low self-esteem. supposedly attention-deficit disorder and hyperactivity (but I personally think that is natural and shouldn’t be medicated). I think the depression and low self-esteem are very real however.

Can’t insurance companies reject insurance plans anymore that care preexisting health conditions?

Under the assumption that the heath system overhaul is accepted by the Senate.

Honey, that part of the bill doesn’t go into effect for three more years. The only thing that happens NOW, is serious tax increases. Enjoy!

can you really determine health conditions by the appearance of your bowel movements?

January 15, 2011 - 5:48 am 3 Comments

my doctor told me that you could determine what may be wrong with you (if anything) by the length, color or shape of your bowel movements. and whether or not they tend to be solid or loose.

anyone know anything regarding this?

This is true for certain health conditions – and can also tell you something about your diet. A dark stool can indicate illnesses like appendicitis, people who eat too much fat will often have stool which floats, and people with loose stools may have a parasite etc. There’s a lot which can be ascertained.

Need advices to guide someone to improve health conditions to avoid heart disease without hurting feeling?

January 11, 2011 - 12:25 pm 1 Comment

At least 5 people I knew had stent procedures and/or bypass surgeries last month. Correct someone to drop extreme high cholesterol foods and taking medicine to control blood pressure is a difficult task sometime to fight this disease that they often dont want to become any part of the criticized object. Very appreciate any successful experience and ideas.

Changing one’s diet and exercise patterns are the best way to reduce heart attack risk, but these take a lot of commitment. You cannot do it for them, no matter how much you might want to. What you might be able to do is do it WITH them. For example, if the person needs to diet, which is common, try doing it at the same time. This usually means avoiding sweets — no cookies, cakes, candy, or ice cream. Also, to bring down high blood pressure, a person usually needs to lower their dietary sodium, which means less salt. This is often the hardest thing to get used to. You can buy foods with artificial sweeteners that still taste sweet. But there is no real substitute for salt. It is best to "bite the bullet" and just do without. It’s hard at first, but you do get used to it after awhile. Then your taste buds revive and you begin to notice all the subtle flavors that you never noticed before. You must be patient, though. Buy the American Heart Association cook book to help with guidelines on fats, sugar, salt, and cholesterol. Dieting with someone is always less burdensome than doing it alone, because you can encourage each other, tell each other, "You’re doing great! Keep up the good work!" And reward each successful week on the diet by going to a movie — or something else you enjoy that doesn’t involve food.
