How many mental health conditions are because of society’s view of normal rather than the individual’s problem?
UK society has a very fixed idea of what is "normal" and acceptable: based around the central spine of slim, beautiful, finding a partner, mortgage, kids, career progression, confidence and financial success. Anyone who can’t, doesn’t want to, or acts outside of this "norm is said to have a "mental health issue". So my question is does society directly cause mental health conditions or are mental conditions genetically or virally part of a person?
both: its also how u react to it or let it affect u (the genetics is a totally different thing).
lets see: I graduated a year ago, can’t get a job though I’m practically a nerd, I work around the house more than my parents do (hey, I’ve got the time right?), i’m young, a total control freak and a gal who thinks she can do whatever a man does (physically challenged but still), don’t have a boyfriend and can’t remember the last time I did and I don’t go out of my way to socialize with everybody. ALL this in the context of a misogynistic country where the man is the pillar of society and has to do it all, where women are supposed to be submissive and quiet (which I’m not). my neighbors think I’m crazy for sure. I label them crazy and be done with it.
the truth however remains that people are more frail than one would think
